Our Students' Art:
Open Studio Life Figure Drawing Sessions
What to Expect: Expect to have fun. Expect to have challenge. Expect to improve your drawing skills. Expect to make new friends and connections. Everyone will experience our open studio life figure drawing sessions differently; however, the above are definitely aspects of class you will experience!
Figure drawing is unique among academic drawing exercises. If you’re seasoned, you’ll fit right in. If you’re new, we’ll help you feel comfortable. The more prolific you become with your figure drawing, the more artistically accomplished you will feel as this is one of the most difficult artistic skills to master. Our open studios are non-instructional.
As you develop your figurative art skills, not only will your artistic confidence increase, so will the freedom with which you begin to actually create – that is, to be creative within the scope of your abilities. You’ll gain a new appreciation for the efforts you place into your craft, because it is in fact, the consistency of practice and getting through the frustrations that allow for the growth you seek as an artist. We all struggle with this and group classes such as our open studios help force the artist to stick it out and work through it. The classroom eliminates frustration distraction and thus, while you hone in on your artistic skills or build new ones, each class is a lesson in working through the challenge life drawing presents. Your devotion and perseverance will show over time in the improvement of your sketches. Promise.
Each model, as each person, is different. You will find certain models fit your style better with pose variations. We try to book relative equal male/female models throughout the season.
Doors open 15 minutes before class. First come, first serve for the best drawing spots. We cap out at 13 attendees.
Models begin on the hour so we can get you as much practice time as possible when realistically, planned breaks and occasional discussion take actual drawing time away. We are mindful to keep the schedule on track and request everyone keep mindful too of the time during breaks. It's a joint effort. Late attendance for students is okay but be quiet entering. Class fees remain the same for early or late attendees so try to be on time for maximum value. You're welcome to leave at anytime to accommodate your schedule's needs.
What You Should Bring: Bring your paper and medium supplies. We prefer dry mediums so when using paint, please inform your moderator before you arrive (day before is fine) and he/she will provide you with what's necessary to help preserve our new floors in case of paint splatters.
