Classical Figure Drawing: Dominique in Charcoal

This is a very in depth and step by step video series combined with in-person instruction where we focus on creating a realistic and accurate figure drawing in charcoals. We will spend extensive time on the process of measuring to create a strong foundation upon which to begin our values and realism of form. In this course, students gain essential knowledge on representational figure drawing techniques by training the eye to see with particular focus on proper measuring. We work slowly and all steps of the process are vocalized and shown in videos.
Videos allow students to hear what is happening in the mind of the instructor, what questions need to be asked when working on this drawing and the steps of the thought process that follows in an organized fashion for a realistic and proportioned result. This method used in drawing "Dominique" is founded on classical academic figure drawing principles. During our Zoom call check ins we will go over any questions and work on direct challenges each student faces, reinforcing the basic principles presented in the video instruction.
Great course for anyone wanting to improve their proportions and values to achieve quality realism in figure drawing or anyone just starting out. If you're a 101 beginner, and you're patient (necessary), this will give you everything you need to create realistic and proportioned figure drawings. Building a solid foundation early in your artistic journey is best because it saves time later so do not let the fear of being a beginner stop you. Every artist was once an amateur, Ralf Waldo Emerson once said. For those more advanced, if proportion or values are your trouble spots, these are principles we work on extensively and this course will benefit all artists in the department of accuracy.
Students have 12 weeks from the date of video delivery to finish this project for email support and critiques. We meet on Zoom every other week to allow ample time to watch the videos, digest them and then practice the methods. Students may finish sooner or later depending on their schedule and drawing time. Students do NOT need to show up to all 6 Zoom calls but they must complete the project for personalized critiques and Q & A with instructor within 12 weeks time.
