Designed as a multi-level mentorship program for students to train their eyes to see and render life accurately and with sensitivity while working from direct observation or photographs based on the student's interest and skill level.  Basic drawing techniques will be explored, such as proportion, perspective and value principles, as well as basic color theory for those working in color.  Media that may be used is graphite and/or charcoal for beginners and intermediate students may use pastels. Materials depend on the project and will be discussed before class begins so there is no standard materials list.  This is an ongoing class so students may join anytime for a minimum of four weeks and therefore, the class may vary in size from two to 6 people (maximum) depending on the month.  **Mentoring available for this class: use you own project sources or photographs and receive feedback and guidance as you work.

This is the best painting class for beginner painting students! It is intended for students who truly are beginners with paint or have tried but can't seem to figure it out. What paints go together?  What colors do you start with?  How do they mix? What is an acrylic medium, how is it used and why do you need it?  How do you create depth and dimension in paintings?  How do you make it look "good enough"?!  If any of these questions have lurked in your mind then this class has answers for you!  Acrylic paint dries quickly so its technique works upon layering.  Students will be introduced to several must know elements of acrylic painting while keeping the 101 skill level in mind as we work with simple still life painting compositions. Students will build on each lesson wherein, by the end of six weeks, they will have gained confidence in the application of acrylic paint, mixing, blending and more.  This is a perfect course for any beginner painter. Step by Step videos aids are extremely helpful to students who wish to practice on their own time as well as during class time on Zoom.

4-week Art Boot Camp for Teens - let's prep for portfolios!
New dates to be released *
Tuesdays 5:30pm - 6:30pm
$99 / 4-weeks

Instructor: Lind Hollingsworth  /  Lind@thestudioschoolsavannah.com

This class is intended to help teens up level their art audition portfolios; however, non portfolio seeking students may join in.  Each week we will have an assignment that can be either begun and/or refined in class as students will have access to a password protected page created just for them where assignments will be posted before we meet in our virtual classroom.   Students will need to begin some assignments on their own and use class time to refine their art with instructor guidance while other assignments will be started in class and students will refine them on their own time.  The instructor will be available for assistance through email contact. If students complete all assignments, they should end up with 8 total art pieces for the full course.

We will be working with all media and each assignment will have options for wet or dry media so this way parents do not need to purchase all the art supplies needed unless they wish to.  Art instruction wise, students will be introduced to basic art principles and drawing techniques including but not limited to composition, proportion, values and perspective.  There will not be a lot of one-on-one time in this class, rather more independent study; however, the instructor is available throughout the course for any questions students may have while they work on their own time.  This allows the flexibility needed for families and teens during these Covid times,  and still make progress without added stress.  We hope this turns out a good option for parents and teens!

Students will work in graphite, charcoal, pastels with option for paints for those who have them or wish to purchase them.  We will work on still life, landscape, portraits as well as creative design. Lastly, we will have two 45-minute drawing sessions, one per 4-weeks to simulate audition time.

Skill builder courses are designed to help you in your trouble areas rather than focusing on the "big picture" of portrait drawing. Here we will look at where you are presently in your skills and the instructor will guide you to notice where improvements are needed.  The art student will notice dramatic improvements in value tones, proportion and detail work when s/he draws the portrait again with the new information presented.  For this skill builder course, students will learn how to draw more realistic and proportional face from photograph sources onto toned paper working from where they're presently at skill wise and includes individualized one-on-one critiquing and guidance.  By the end of this workshop, the student will have confidence in understanding how to correct their trouble spots for improved portrait drawing plus a few great tips along the way! Beginners & teens welcome.
